KINGSVILLE (September 2, 2021) — The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation, Inc. officially completed the With You. Without Limits. Campaign at the close of business Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021 with a major gift from Roberto (Bob) ’70 and Trauterose (Traute) Montoya. This major gift adds to the VRC Roberto and Trauterose Montoya ROTC Scholarship Endowment the couple established in 2015.

The Montoyas are longtime supporters of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and they are members of the university’s Legacy Society. Bob, originally from Corpus Christi, is a 1970 graduate of Texas A&I University. He is currently CEO of VRC Corporation and was named a Javelina Distinguished Alumnus in 2020.

“All of our students, inclusive of our future military leaders, require our support.  They are the representatives of what our communities will become,” said Montoya, who serves on the Foundation Board of Trustees.

The foundation and university publicly announced the With You. Without Limits. Campaign in April 2018, setting a goal of $100 million in gifts and pledges. The campaign total passed that goal in January 2020. The final tally will be announced at an event on campus Sept. 30, 2021.

“The Montoya’s generous gift will go a long way in educating future generations of ROTC students, preparing them to become leaders in service to our nation. The Montoyas exemplify the spirit of giving and service that defines our alumni who are committed to the success of our students and the advancement of Texas A&M-Kingsville,” said Texas A&M-Kingsville President Dr. Mark Hussey. “Gifts made through the With You. Without Limits. comprehensive campaign provide a critical margin of excellence that supports our faculty and students, inspiring in them innovation and motivation to succeed.”

“We are honored to have the support of the Montoyas,” said Brad Walker, university Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Roberto and so many alumni like him have been key to the success of this campaign. He does absolutely everything you want alumni to do. Our students will succeed in the future because of alumni support.”

The VRC Montoya Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to outstanding ROTC students in each undergraduate year. The Montoyas established the endowment to acknowledge the important influence the Javelina ROTC Battalion had on Roberto’s academic and military career, and to inspire young cadets for future success.
