AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach.

Dr. Shannon Baker, Interim Associate Vice President for Student Success, said A&M-Kingsville was recognized for being a leader in teaching and learning. The award recognizes the university’s “Circle of Care” model that uses AVID strategies throughout the life cycle of the student to help students succeed.

Dr. Stephanie Bain De Los Santos, AVID Liaison and UNIV Lecturer, nominated A&M-Kingsville for the award in September.

“It sets us apart as a campus,” Baker said. “It’s an honor to be recognized for being a campus that supports its students.”
