What is a Title IX Coordinator?

The University Title IX Coordinator’s core responsibilities include overseeing the University’s response to Sexual Misconduct.  The University Title IX Coordinator must be informed of all reports raising Title IX issues, regardless of where the report was initially filed.

When should I contact a Title IX Coordinator?

Texas A&M University-Kingsville is committed to ensuring a campus community that is safe for all.  Under Texas A&M System Regulation 08.01.01 Civil Rights Compliance, all Texas A&M University-Kingsville employees are responsible for reporting alleged or suspected Title IX violations (sex discrimination, harassment, assault, misconduct, or violence) to a Title IX Coordinator.  Student employees, including but not limited to Resident Advisors, are considered University employees for purposes of the regulation.  Employees are required to inform a Coordinator of all relevant information, including names, even if the individual who made the disclosure requests privacy.  The Title IX Coordinator will evaluate requests for privacy in the context of the University’s responsibility to provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment for all students.

Individuals may also report a Title IX concern to a Title IX Coordinator directly.

You may also contact a coordinator if you:

  • Have questions about University rules and procedures;
  • Want to know what resources are available to victims of sexual assault or sexual violence;
  • Need guidance accommodating a pregnant or parenting student;
  • Want to know more about Title IX;
  • Would like to schedule a training program.

Finally, State law requires all persons having cause to believe that a child’s physical or mental health or welfare has been adversely affected by abuse or neglect to immediately make a report to law enforcement, even if the belief is premised upon incomplete or dated information.  Please contact UPD at (361)593-2611.
