The Department of Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. Our environmental engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org. More information about our ABET accreditation, including enrollment and graduation data is found on our accreditation webpage (make it hyperlinked to ABET Accreditation).

What is Environmental Engineering?

Environmental engineering is a professional discipline that applies the principles of engineering, science, and math to develop solutions to environmental problems that impact human health and the environment. Environmental engineers work on a wide range of issues including air quality, water pollution, waste management, sustainability, and resource conservation. Environmental engineers apply scientific principles to improve and maintain the environment for the protection of human health, for the protection of nature's beneficial ecosystems, and environment-related enhancement of the quality of human life.

Environmental engineering students at TAMUK learn the knowledge and critical skills to design sustainable solutions for today’s most pressing environmental challenges. Our program prepares you to:

  • Build a Strong Scientific Foundation
    • Understand the chemistry, biology, and physics behind environmental systems
    • Study water, air, and soil quality and how to protect them
  • Develop Engineering Expertise
    • Design systems for clean water, air pollution control, and waste management
    • Use tools like GIS, AutoCAD, AI, and environmental modeling software
    • Learn about renewable energy, green infrastructure, and sustainable design
  • Solve Real-World Environmental Problems
    • Analyze environmental data and assess risks
    • Plan and manage environmental projects
    • Work on real projects through labs, internships, and a senior capstone project
  • Grow as a Professional
    • Communicate technical ideas clearly to diverse audiences
    • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and community stakeholders
