Dr. Sung-won Park


P.E., Professor of Electrical Engineering

Dr. Sung Park received his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Hanyang University, South Korea in 1975 and M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1982 and 1985, respectively.  He was an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Auburn University, 1985-1989.  He has been with Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, since 1989.  He was department chair from 1998 till 2012.  He has been a technical consultant for the BDM Corporation in Albuquerque, NM, since 1988.

Teaching: He received the 2005 Faculty Teaching Award from the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company.  He also received the TAMUS Student Recognition Award for Teaching Excellence in Spring 2010 and Spring 2011.

Research and Scholarship: He is an author of a textbook, “Essence of Digital Signal Processing,” and a primary author of more than 30 technical papers in signal processing.  Dr. Park is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and a Senior Member of IEEE.  He has been PI of research grants, one funded by NSF and the other by NASA.

Research Interest: Spectral Analysis, Data Compression, Speech Processing, Image Processing
