Welcome to University
College at Texas A&M University-Kingsville! We hope the information
provided on our web site will help you learn about our College and the
support we provide to new and continuing students. Since 1989, University
College has served as the gateway to academic success on our campus
and provides support to students through academic advising, developmental
education, the Texas Success Initiative, supplemental instruction, Learning
Assistance Center tutorial services, and the Honors Program. Each year,
the College hosts Freshman Convocation, a campus-wide event designed
to introduce campus traditions and a spirit of success and achievement
to incoming students.
New initiatives
are also actively engaged in enhancing student success in University
College. A campus-wide graduation campaign, called ‘JAV-A-FUTURE’,
was initiated at Freshman Convocation in fall 2005. This campaign will
develop and provide tools to improve student persistence to graduation.
Javelina Learning Communities provide the sense of community within
and outside of the classroom that has played a powerful role in student
learning and success at campuses throughout the nation. In fall 2004,
Project I Can, an innovative consortium agreement with our local community
college partner, Coastal Bend College, was initiated in an effort to
increase the academic success of under-prepared students.
There is so much
to be proud of at Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s University
College! We look forward to meeting you and will provide assistance
as needed to make your first year a successful one!
