Academic
Advising
What is academic advising? A well-trained cohort of advisors with University
College evaluates the academic abilities and background of incoming
freshmen. These advisors work with students to define and develop realistic
goals. Through this process, they help students recognize their abilities
and interests, identify any special needs and/or match students to available
resources that may be required to aid in their journey to be successful.
When should I meet with an academic advisor?
You’ll begin working with academic advisors during Hoggie Days
New Student Orientation. All students are encouraged to meet with their
advisers on a regular basis to monitor their progress toward their educational
and career goals. This process provides a linkage between academic preparation
and the world of work. As classes begin next semester, you may want
to make an appointment to see an advisor if you encounter difficulties
in your schedule. Before each semester ends, you will want to meet with
an academic advisor to plan your schedule for the upcoming semester.
Finally, you may be required to meet with an academic advisor as Early
Alert and final grades are submitted to make changes to your schedule
or develop a Plan for Academic Student Success (PASS) if we believe
you are not achieving to the best of your ability.
