Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded to entering freshman and transfer students who have excelled academically. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships when they submit an application for admission. These scholarships are annual awards and will follow the fall and spring term disbursement cycle. If you are a non-resident awarded a merit scholarship, you will qualify for in-state tuition.

Freshman Merit Scholarships

Texas A&M University-Kingsville offers a variety of merit scholarships to entering freshman who have excelled academically. Determination of awards is based on the highest composite score on national or residual tests, the highest overall composite GPA and rank in class. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships based on their application for admission, once they are admitted to Texas A&M University-Kingsville . The priority admission date for merit scholarship awards is November 1.

Guaranteed to National Merit Finalists who name Texas A&M University-Kingsville as their first choice institution in accordance with the rules and deadlines established by the National Merit Corporation. This award may be granted for up to four years. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled full-time at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.             

Presidential Scholarship

$40,000-$60,000
over four years

31 ACT or 1420 SAT (or greater). Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in 15 hours (Fall and Spring)

Provost Scholarship

$20,000-$32,000
over four year
27-30 ACT or 1280-1410 SAT. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in 15 hours (Fall and Spring)

Dean's Scholarship

$4,000-$16,000
over four years

23-26 ACT or 1130-1270 SAT. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in 15 hours (Fall and Spring)

Academic Excellence Award

$1000

20 ACT or 1020 SAT (or greater). Top 10% class rank from an accredited Texas high school. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in 15 hours (Fall and Spring)

*The composite for both the ACT and SAT scores do not include the writing portion of the test.

Merit Transfer Scholarship

The Merit Transfer Scholarship is awarded to current college students that are interested in transferring to Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Minimum Requirements

GPA: 3.5 minimum cumulative transfer GPA

Credit Hours completed: 15 credit hours from a regionally accredited institution

Renewal Requirements

The Merit Transfer Scholarship may be awarded up to two years or until completion of the first bachelor's degree.

GPA: Maintain a 3.0 or higher institutional GPA
