This week’s Javelina Athletes of the Week are Abel Garcia and Courtney Rigamonti.
Garcia won both the shot put and the discus at the Border Olympics in Laredo. His winning throw in the shot put was 54-1, three and a half feet better than his best outdoor throw last season. Garcia’s winning toss in the discus was 158-2.
Rigamonti pitched two complete game shutouts in the Javelina softball team’s sweep over the Eastern New Mexico Zias. In 12 innings, she allowed only nine hits with only one of them garnering extra bases while holding the Zias to a .186 batting average.
