After falling to the West Texas A&M Buffaloes, 69-51, last Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas fell into fourth place in the Lone Star Conference South Division standings.
The fourth place team from from each division is the last to qualify for the LSC postseason tournament.
The Hogs currently have a one-game lead over the Angelo State Rams, their opponent this Wednesday night here, Feb. 27.
The Javelinas last to the Rams three weeks ago in San Angelo, 79-76.
The matchup against Angelo State will again be a meeting of the top two point guards in the LSC.
ASU’s Jerod Haynes leads the conference with 6.88 assists per game while the Hogs’ Wendell Mulkey is second with 6.38 assists per game.
If the Hogs lose to the Rams, they must defeat the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday, March 1, in Abilene and hope the Rams fall to the Tarleton State Texans later that night in order to qualify for the postseason.
A&M-Kingsville got a big win over the Wildcats, 91-75, earlier in the season.
The Wildcats are the top scoring team in the LSC and the Javelinas held them 12 points under their season average in that game.
