Hogs run wild at Javelina Relays
Barefield, Garcia lead Kingsville against Division I teams

Tremaine Barefield and Abel Garcia led the Javelina track and field team to a big day at the Javelina Relays.
Barefield won the long jump with a jump of 23-1.25 and came in second in the triple jump with a distance of 47-6.25.
Garcia won the hammer throw competion, finished second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.
Garcia’s throw in the hammer competition of 162-6 was his best of his season.
His throw in the discus came in at 150-11 while his throw in the shot put came in 49-7.25.
Ozzie Garcia finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6-7.
Ozzie Garcia’s older brother Rene Garcia also had a second place finish, his coming in the 400-meter dash.
Rene Garcia’s came in at 49.52 seconds for the second place finish.
Rene Garcia also joined Earsel Montgomery, Anthony Ayala and Dustin Appling in finishing second in the the 4x400-meter relay.
The quarter finished with a season-best time of 3:19.36.
The Javelinas also had two second-place finishes coming on the women’s side.
Cathryin Prataka finished second in the high jump with a jump of 5-4.25.
Prataka’s jump was a season-best effort.
Cynthia Turner came in second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.09.
Mary Sampson finished sixth in the 200 with a season-best time of 26.19.
Erica Alvarado came in fourth in the 3,000-meter dash with a time of 11:17.91.
The Javelina women’s quarter of Brittney Marshall, Kylie Ward, Willis and Sampson took third in the 4x400, coming in at 49.30.
Veronica Medina took second place for the Javelinas in the hammer competition with a throw of 132-8.
The Javelinas next competition will be the Rice Twilight on Thursday, April 24 in Houston.
That will be the last stop before the Lone Star Conference championships on May 3-4 in Abilene.
