TAMUK UPD has received new Dodge patrol cars. The department was in need of the vehicles cause of fumes. Each car is driven for 24 hours a day by the officers and are replaced about every five to ten years depending on they're budget. |
The University Police Department has finally received two new cars to their fleet late march. The vehicles were purchased in January and have now arrived.
The primary mission of the University Police Department is to serve the students, faculty, staff, and to protect them and their property from criminal acts. The department was in need of the vehicles because the previous ones were rendered and labeled unsafe for officers and campus because of fumes.
Each car is driven for 24 hours a day by the officers and are replaced about every five to ten years depending on they’re budget.
It was also said that the previous vehicles would cost too much money for the department to get fixed. It was evident that purchasing the new vehicles would help the Department sufficiently, as well as their budget. Each vehicle was at a recorded cost of $18,000. They do include an overhead bar, plus another $3000 for other equipment.
“I appreciate Administration for seeing our need and allowing us to purchase these vehicles.” Said Chief Sandra Jefferson. Who seemed relived that the department was able to let go of the two old police cars. Chief Jefferson also said that UPD also has a truck, but is currently getting fixed. With these new vehicles, our police officers can better serve the citizens on campus. UPD welcome’s the community’s suggestions on how to make the University a safer place to live, attend classes, and visit.
