It’s that time of year again. Once again, Texas A & M University-Kingsville students have the opportunity to shake off their stress and groove to some hot music.
This year‘s 10th Annual Mesquite Groove will be taking place on Wednesday, May 7 on the University Boulevard from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The event will feature a variety of local bands designed to appeal to everyone’s tastes.
Vallejo, once voted Austin’s most popular rock band, will be the lead band. Also featured will be: Triggerfish, playing island-style music, The Rock N Blues Engine and Commander Cody, a country rock band.
“This year is going to be bigger and better than ever,” Paul Roberts, associate professor, said.
Roberts, along with students Jenny Garcia, Sam Eulenfeld and Ozzy Vela of KTAI 91.1 FM have been working hard to put together the event. KTAI, the university’s radio station who is hosting the event, along with generous donations from Disco Round, Precision Collision, Continental Airlines and the Raddison have made this year’s concert event possible.
The Memorial Student Union Building will be open late and Sodexho will be providing food to hungry concert-goers.
There will also be some concession stands available for drinks and snacks. T-shirts will also be sold.
“Everyone come out,” Roberts said.
“All of Kingsville needs to come out and have a big party.”
There will be an after party at the Country Luau.
The concert-- the last celebration of the semester-- is free and open to the public.

A striking blend of modern rock grooves, potent guitar work, Latin Percussion and soulful lyrics has made Vallejo one of the most popular band to hail from Austin.
