With the semester coming to an end, senior art students are showing off techniques and personalities by exhibiting their artwork for the public eye to view.
Jenika Perez, Emmanuel Sanchez, Clarissa Berrones, and Henry Cruz have all accomplished their art exhibits.
Assistant Dean and art professor, Todd Lucas, stated that “choice=memory”, the joint show of Sanchez and Berrones, is the strongest two-person show that he has seen, yet, in the department.
Sanchez said that he and Berrones had been planning their exhibit together since the fall semester. Sanchez used wood with acrylic and oil paint to represent his memory and interpretation of Grimm’s fairy tales and Berrones had paintings, drawings and sculptures to help represent life choices.
“We just knew that our pieces would compliment each other,” Sanchez said. “Our works had similar colors, design schemes, and moods.”
Cruz’s “Guac-n-Roll” was based on avocado paintings while Perez’ s exhibit “Entering the Subconscious” was an examination of the subconscious mind and had textile designs infused with mixed media.
“Just like every semester, there are students who really get everything together and have a really good show.” Lucas said. “Then there are students who don’t put much time and effort into it, yet they come out with a great show, as well.”
Bryan Schiller is displaying his paintings this week in the Ben Bailey Art Gallery.
Rosalinda Salinas and Catherine Myers will feature their artwork next week.
With an art education degree on the rise, Salinas will be displaying a whirlwind of mixed media in the Ben Bailey Art Gallery to show what techniques and skills she has learned as an art student.
Myers will be displaying digital photography that combine her eye for design and her journalistic background. Her art exhibit will be showing in the Memorial Student Union Building.
