The numbers are in and the Texas A&M University-Kingsville student enrollment is up for the spring semester throughout all departments.
The spring semester has experienced a campus-wide enrollment increase totaling up to 6 percent.
“I am very pleased with the enrollment increase and believe we are on the right track,” Dr. Steven Tallant, president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, said. “The increase demonstrates that by working together as a campus community, we can grow our enrollment. However, I, believe we have seen just the ‘tip of the iceberg,’ and there is still much to be accomplished in the areas of retention and recruitment.”

Although all departments experienced increases in enrollment, the departments that received the most were the colleges of Arts and Sciences, which is up 14 percent, while the colleges of education and engineering were both up 3 percent.“New campus lighting, signage and the cleaning of buildings have made the campus very attractive,” Tallant said. “Also, there is no doubt that the opening of University Village and the soon-to-be-opened student recreation center have both played a significant role in the recruitment and retention of students.”
Tallant also described other strategies for retaining students and plans for how the university will continue to do so in the future.
“We must continue an environment that reflects pride and excellence. Therefore, we must continue to upgrade our facilities including our labs and classrooms,” Tallant said. “We must also continue to build new residence halls and dining facilities to meet antic
ipated growth of students.”
