The Future of A&M-San Antonio
The Future
In 2003, the 78th Legislature passed SB 800 to create Texas A&M-San Antonio, authored by Senator Frank Madla. Progress catapulted the last couple of years as the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents selected a 700-arce campus site located at Loop 410 and Zarzamora, and the Verano Land Group agreed to donate the acreage! In addition, tuition revenue bonds were authorized under HB153 for $40 million for Phase I construction, scheduled to break ground in 2009. The new campus is projected to open its doors to students as early as 2010-2011 school year! Then, on May 23, 2009, Gov. Rick Perry signed Senate Bill 629 which created Texas A&M University-San Antonio as a stand-alone university.
