William Bush received his B.A. in History from the University of New Orleans, M.A. in History from UNLV, and Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.

His research focuses on the history of teenagers and their often troubled place in American society. His current book project,Who Gets a Childhood?: Race and Juvenile Justice in Twentieth Century Texas (forthcoming 2010 from University of Georgia Press), examines the emergence of separate cultural and policy categories for adolescents according to race and class. He has also edited and written a new introduction for a republished book from the 1950s, The Circle of Guilt (University Press of Mississippi), which analyzes the role of media violence and ethnic discrimination in a notorious teenage murder case in New York City.
