Airborne Training

The US Army Airborne School, located at Ft. Benning, Georgia, is available through Army ROTC to cadets that are enrolled in our program. The course is three weeks long, consisting of a ground week, tower week and jump week. Each week covers different topics, or points of performance, designed to teach you how to jump out of airplanes. It is an exciting non-stop course that will push you to the limit. After making five parachute jumps, you will be awarded the U.S. Army Parachutist Badge. AIRBORNE!!!

General Information:

Cadets attending Airborne Training will not receive pay or allowances while attending the course. 

Basic Airborne training is a three-week long program conducted by the Airborne Department, US Army Infantry Center, Fort Benning, Georgia. Successful completion of the school qualifies cadets to wear the Basic Parachutist Badge.

Attendance Prerequisites:

Eligibility:
Contracted MS I’s and MS-II’s have priority to attend the Basic Airborne Course (BAC), followed by MS III’s who have attended Warrior Forge; MS I and MS II who are non-contracted; MS IV, V, VI and MS III cadets who have not attended Warrior Forge.

Completion cadets and newly commissioned 2LTs are not eligible to attend BAC.

 MS-I students, however, must be prior service.   Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) cadets are eligible to participate in BAC; however, non-SMP cadets should be given the priority for the slots.

Physical Fitness:
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) must be administered within 30 days of  the class start date. Cadets must score a minimum 180 points (60 in each category) using the 17-21 year old age group standards regardless of the cadet's actual age. Results must be recorded on a valid DA Form 705 and will be hand carried to the school.

Physical Exam::
Cadets must have a  physical exam within 60 months of the class start date.  DODMERB physicals are authorized.  Cadets must also provide a dental record statement as required by 4th Region (ROTC) Reg 40-1. Moreover, cadets must have a panographic radiograph on file at their battalion (school) headquarters.


Travel Information:

Cadets travel by commercial air to Columbus , GA or by POV to Fort Benning , if authorized. Cadets desiring to travel by POV must receive prior approval from HQ, 4th Region (ROTC) Training Division, ATTN: ATOD-T. There is usually no government transportation between the airport and Ft Benning. Cadets must have enough funds to cover the cost of a one way trip with commercial transportation (approximately $20.00 for one way). Obtain a receipt in order to claim this reimbursable expense. Upon arrival at Fort Benning , cadets report to the S-1, 1st Bn, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), School Brigade, Bldg 2748, in appropriate civilian attire. Cadets must report not later than (NLT) 1800 hours on the report date.

Students who fail to report at the directed time in order to inprocess for the training will be counted as a “NO SHOW” and be turned back. Cadets arriving early are not authorized to live with friends or relatives, but must report to the school and contact the ROTC Airborne LNO. Cadets out-process on Friday morning followed by a graduation ceremony at approximately 1100. Students are normally free to depart after 1500; however, departure flights should not be scheduled earlier than 1700 hours. Cadets may stay Saturday and Sunday after graduation in the barracks for the purpose of awaiting transportation.



Administrative Instructions:


Cadets must have a round trip ticket if they are not attending Warrior Forge.  Cadets attending Warrior Forge first and then to BAC must have one way ticket to Warrior Forge, then Warrior Forge will provide ticket to BAC.  If there is excessive time (over 72 hours) between Warrior Forge and BAC, cadets  will be issued one way ticket to Warrior Forge and Warrior Forge will provide cadet return ticket to HOR/School.

Cadets must arrive at Fort Benning with at least 15 copies of their orders. Additionally, cadets should bring about $100.00 for personal expenses. Each student must maintain their own uniform and equipment. Cadets will be required to clean their billets and to perform duties when directed by the company. The school will issue all equipment necessary for training. Equipment that is required for Warrior Forge but not Airborne will be retained by the cadet or s/he may elect to have it mailed home at their own expense.

Uniform And Equipment Requirements

All cadets attending the BAC will meet the Army appearance and inspection standards. Hair will be maintained IAW AR 670-1. Females will not use metal, plastic pins or barrettes to secure their hair. Only hairnets will be used. Additionally, male cadets will adhere to the standards of AR 670-1 regarding facial hair. Female cadets will not wear cosmetics in the training area. If required, two (2) pair military issued glasses or civilian equivalence (heavy plastic frames and lenses).  NO CONTACT LENSES  will  be worn during training.
