Founded on a broad liberal arts education, the curriculum promotes social work knowledge and skills centered on the professional values of service, social justice, cultural diversity, the dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, and professional integrity and competence. The primary mission of the social work program is to offer an educational program that will prepare graduates to provide competent entry-level generalist social work to an ethnically and culturally diverse population with an educational emphasis on social justice and empowerment for people who are vulnerable,Thursday, October 18, 2007 Bachelor's of Social Work is one of the newest degrees to be offered by A&M-Kingsville, the Social Work profession itself is not new. Students who graduate with a BSW degree from A&M-Kingsville will be following in the footsteps of the first graduates of what was to become the Columbia University School of Social Work over 100 years ago. Any student admitted to A&M-Kingsville may request enrollment as a pre-social work major. Once students have completed at least 45 hours of credit, including 30 hours of liberal arts requirements and two pre-requisite Social Work courses, they may apply for admission to the BSW Program as a social work major. This usually occurs in the spring semester of the student's sophomore year. For more Information about the Social Work Program at A&M-Kingsville please contact the Social Work Program Office. |
