New online giving portal provides security, convenience to donors
’Tis the season for giving gifts, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville reminds you that a gift to the university not only supports university students and programs, but also yields significant and timely tax savings. And in 2007, the university has made donating even more convenient with the launch of secure online giving.
“We want all alumni and other friends of the university to know that end-of-year giving benefits both supporters and the university, allowing them to leverage tax deduction opportunities up to the end of 2007,” Javier “Jay” Zambrano, director of development, said. “We have made it easier than ever to donate at this busy time of year by enabling online giving.”
There are a variety of ways an end-of-year gift may be made, Zambrano said: cash, check, credit card, gifts of stock, gift-in-kind, endowments, and planned or deferred giving. Each offers specific tax savings, and donors should consult with their financial advisers to determine which option best fulfills their tax and philanthropic goals. Donors also are reminded that the various giving options have different deadlines set by the Internal Revenue Service, so consulting with a financial adviser is crucial to ensure that all benefits are realized.
Giving online provides security and convenience as well. The online giving portal is found at www.javelinaalumni.com/donation.cfm. The online gift form is a secure site hosted by the Javelina Alumni Association that allows donors to make a gift using their American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Discover card anytime, day or night. To ensure that your gift will be counted during 2007 and to allow time for processing, the university asks that contributions are made no later than midnight (Central Standard Time), Monday, Dec. 31.
After linking to the portal, donors may select from several choices – colleges, centers and programs – to direct their gifts or they can designate their gift to the university’s Annual Fund. With two or three simple mouse clicks, supporters can make an end-of-year gift to Texas A&M-Kingsville—a process that takes no more than five minutes but will benefit the university and most importantly its students for years to come.
Online giving also allows the donor to give in honor of family members or friends, providing a valued, much loved holiday gift to the person honored. Memorial gifts also can be made.
The Office of Development is available to provide information on making gifts to the university. To learn more, contact Zambrano at (361) 593-3917 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
