. The program honors outstanding high school students who each receive $1,000 scholarships for college. Renee Brown, Dr. Mauro Castro and Dr. Rajab Challoo of Texas A&M-Kingsville were among the judges for the program, which this year honored 17 area students for excellence in nine categories.

The Austin American-Statesman includes a story about “El Dia De Los Muertes,” a collection of community altars in remembrance of loved ones, currently on exhibit at Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin. Included is a life-size installation by TAMUK Associate Art Professor Santa Barraza and Eloy Jimenez in the tradition of the Day of the Dead sand paintings of Oaxaca.
