Free barbecue part of all-day Juneteenth celebration Saturday, June 18, at Thompson Park
Texas A&M-Kingsville and the Black Heritage Awareness Committee are among the sponsors of this year’s Juneteenth Celebration, to be held all day Saturday, June 18, at Thompson Park in Kingsville.

Free barbecue will be available, as well as a number of competitions offering cash prizes or trophies. They include the BBQ Rib Competition, which has a $30 entrance fee and top three money prizes of $150, $100 and $75; a Dominoes Competition, with a $10 entrance fee and top money prizes of $100, $50 and $25; a Three on Three Basketball Competition, with a $10 entrance fee and trophies to the top three places; and a free cake bake-off competition, offering trophies to the top three places.

Pre-registration deadline for the competitions is Thursday, June 16, at 4:30 p.m. at the Frederick Douglass Community Center, located on South 2 nd Street, to Betty Sue Guyton. Late competition registration takes place Saturday, June 18, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Thompson Park.

All proceeds from the Juneteenth Celebration go to benefit the Frederick Douglass Community Center.

Other sponsors for the event include the King Ranch, Wal-Mart, H.E.B. and the Kleberg County Parks and Recreation Department.

Milagro art institute program holds a public showing Friday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.

This Friday at 6:30 p.m., a group of Texas high school students will have a free public showing of original artworks at Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s Ben Bailey Art Gallery that were created over the course of a very full week as part of the art department’s Milagro Art Institute project. President's list for Spring 2005 released 

Texas A&M University-Kingsville has released the names of the students who made the President’s List for the spring 2005 semester. In order to qualify for the prestigious President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 semester hours and receive a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. During the spring semester 91 students received the perfect grade point average. Read more»

Mathematics summer camp offers something for students and teachers

A group of fourth and fifth graders are spending two weeks in Mathematics Summer Camp at Texas A&M University-Kingsville learning new ways to solve problems – as are their teachers. Read more»

Polendo Luna selected to participate in professions capacity building program

Diana Polendo Luna, administrative assistant III in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, has been selected to participate in the 2005 Professions Capacity Building Program sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the Department of Health and Health Services (DHHS). Texas A&M-Kingsville Ranks Seventh Among State’s Top 25 for HUB Participation

Texas A&M University-Kingsville and seven other members of The Texas A&M University System were among the top 25 agencies statewide for buying goods and services provided by companies certified as Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) in fiscal year 2005, according to the Texas Procurement and Building Commission.
