TAMUK Professor receives award

Victor French
Victor French, professor at the university's Citrus Center in Weslaco, recently received the Arthur T. Potts Award from the Rio Grande Valley Horticultural Society for his outstanding contributions to area horticulture and to the society. He has worked at the Citrus Center for 28 years and has served as president of the society twice. He also served terms as treasurer, section vice-president and associate editor of the society journal. French has contributed more papers to the journal than any other researcher.
French served as interim director of the Citrus Center from 1994-95. He also has described six new pests while on staff at the Citrus Center and his work has led to the registration of at least nine pesticides to treat mite and insect infestations.
He received his bachelor's degree in entomology and a master's degree in entomology and plant pathology from Colorado State University. He earned his doctorate in entomology from Michigan State University.
