SAVERLINE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
KINGSVILLE (Oct. 7, 1998) -- The College of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville awarded the first-ever Charles "Chuck" Saverline Jr. Endowed Scholarship recently in memory of a university student who was killed in an automobile accident in May 1997.
Kathryn M. Hall of Kingsville received the $600 scholarship for her freshman year. She will study industrial engineering.
Chuck Saverline was a sophomore chemical engineering major and a member of the Foundation Coalition group when he died. His parents, Peggy and Charles Saverline Sr. of Ricardo, along with other family members and friends, established the scholarship in his memory. He also participated in 4-H, high school band and soccer.
The amount of the initial scholarship for the 1998-99 academic year is $600 with $300 for each semester. The scholarship is renewable if the student maintains a grade point average of 2.75 and takes a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must live in the South Texas area with preference given to Kleberg County residents. They must have graduated in the top quarter of their high school class and have a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT score of 22. Students from rural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
