PLANT IDENTIFICATION TEAM
IS SECOND IN THE STATE
KINGSVILLE (Oct. 30, 1998) -- The plant identification team from the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Texas A&M University-Kingsville placed second at the state level. They placed behind the team from Texas A&M University.
This qualifies them to compete at the International Society of Range Management competition in February in Omaha,
Nebraska. They also will compete at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1999.
Team member Jim Rogers of Baytown received the third place high point individual award.
Other team members include Coach Verl Cash of Columbus, Nathan Ballard of Riviera, Sonny Perez of Falfurrias and Cristie Thompson of Kingsville.
Dr. Tim Fulbright, professor and chair of the animal and wildlife science department, is the team's faculty sponsor.
In competition, the team is shown 50 plant specimens. They have to identify the plants by their scientific name and list some main characteristics of the plant.
