KINGSVILLE (Oct. 30, 1998) -- Students at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will be busy cleaning up their dorm rooms and apartments as they prepare for a visit from their parents and families during the university's annual Family Day Saturday, Nov. 7. Family Day provides parents and siblings of current college students an opportunity to visit campus and learn more about the life of their student.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the lobby of the Student Union Building.
At that time parents sign in and pick up tickets for two free meals served during the day, a brunch and a tailgate party before the Javelina football game. Participants must RSVP for the meals. Most Family Day events are located in or around the Student Union Building.
Beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m., every college at Texas A&M-Kingsville will have an exhibit in the Student Union Building lobby. Displays will share information on College I and the colleges of Agriculture and Human Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Graduate Studies.
Walking tours of the campus and tours of the university farm will leave from the Student Union Building at regular intervals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The residence halls will hold open house.
The third annual Family Day Brunch will be served in the Tejas Room of the Student
Union Building from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The brunch includes breakfast along with a pasta bar, brisket and rotisserie chicken. The meal is free, but participants must have a meal ticket provided at registration.
At brunch, parents can meet the executive staff of Texas A&M-Kingsville including Marc Cisneros, president; Dr. Robert Kirby, provost; Dr. Kay Clayton, vice president of student affairs; and Steve Crandall, vice president of finance and administration. Also in attendance will be State Rep. Irma Rangel and Kingsville Mayor Phil Esquivel.
In the Student Union Building mall area, the Pride of South Texas Marching Band and the Texas A&M-Kingsville cheerleaders will lead a pep rally from 2 to 2:45 p.m. The Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi Javelina will perform in the Student Union Building Ballrooms, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Prior to the Javelina football game, a tailgate party will be held outside Nolan Ryan Field from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The barbecue is free, but participants must have meal tickets provided at registration.
The tailgate party is the last event leading up to the football game, which pits the Javelinas against Abilene Christian University. Game time is 7 p.m.
