ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT GOING

TO THE SOURCE FOR RECRUITMENT

KINGSVILLE (Oct. 27, 1998) -- Faculty and students from the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will visit H.M. King High School in the first Engineering Day, Thursday, Nov. 5.

"Students who plan to study engineering in college or those who are thinking about it as a career may visit with students and faculty to get an idea of what jobs there are in the various engineering fields," said Elva Short, director of new and transitioning students for the College of Engineering. "Our high school students can have questions answered by students who are currently in the program."

Elvira Acosta, senior counselor at King High School, said the College of Engineering representatives will be available for high school students to visit during their lunch hours. "In addition to lunch hours, we are targeting certain students who have expressed an interest in engineering already or are in an engineering-related college preparatory class like drafting and allowing them to visit during class time."

"H.M. King is just a beginning," Short said. "We hope to coordinate similar programs with other high schools in the area."
