RECEPTION TO HONOR RETIRING A&M-KINGSVILLE PROFESSOR OF HISTORY DR. WARD ALBRO
(KINGSVILLE, November 22, 1996) -- A reception to honor Texas A&M University-Kingsville history professor Dr. Ward Albro on his retirement after 30 years of service will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Ben P. Bailey Art Gallery.
Albro will retire from full-time teaching to serve as director of Tierra del Sol, a Kingsville-based guided tour excursion service to the Mexican interior.
Albro has published and lectured widely in both the United States and Mexico on Mexican history and culture, and has organized several major conferences in both countries.
He is the author of "Always a Rebel: Ricardo Flores Magon and the Mexican Revolution," published by TCU Press, as well as numerous articles and reviews on Mexican and Borderlands history.
Albro has served as president of the Southwest Council of Latin American Studies, the Rocky Mountain Council of Latin American Studies, the Southwest Historical Association and the South Texas Historical Association.
His most recent book, "To Die on Your Feet: The Life, Times and Writings of Práxedis G. Guerrero," also published by TCU Press, will be presented at Saturday's reception. All profits from the sales of books at the reception will go to the George O. Coalson scholarship fund which provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate history majors at A&M-Kingsville.
The reception is free and open to the public.
