URENO NAMED ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AT A&M-KINGSVILLE

(KINGSVILLE, 06/07/96)—Frank B. Ureņo has been named assistant vice president of student affairs and dean of students at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, announced Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Kay Clayton.

Ureņo joins the A&M-Kingsville administrative team on July 1. He is currently assistant campus director and student development officer with Doņa Ana Branch Community College at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

"At A&M-Kingsville I will have the opportunity to do what I enjoy most...working one-on-one with students, faculty and staff to develop and provide services that will make them successful in continuing their education or in the work setting," said Ureņo. "Coming from a 15,000-student campus, I look forward to the more personalized, friendlier setting."

With 22 years in higher education, Ureņo brings to the university experience in administration of student services, curriculum development, admissions, public relations, recruitment and retention.

He will oversee operations and renovation of the Student Union Building; work with the Student Activities Coordinating Council; develop a new student handbook; and conduct leadership development activities. Additional responsibilities include assisting with student recruitment, assessing student services needs, and managing student disciplinary actions. Ureņo will also be responsible for the Presidential Ambassadors and the Student Government Association.

"He comes to our university with excellent, related experience in student affairs and services," said Clayton. "We are confident he will help us achieve our goals in working with students, faculty and staff."

The search committee consisted of eleven members who represented A&M-Kingsville faculty and staff, as well as the Student Government Association.

Ureņo earned a bachelor's of arts degree in business education from New Mexico Highlands University in 1969, a master's degree in distributive education from Eastern New Mexico University in 1972, and did post-graduate work in educational management and development at New Mexico State University. He also earned an administrative certificate from New Mexico State University in 1984.

His hobbies include fishing, hunting and reading. Ureņo and wife Lamonn have five grown children.
