A&M-KINGSVILLE OFFERS SUMMER LEARNING FOR CHILDREN
(KINGSVILLE, June 25, 1996) -- Mommy, I'm BORED...what can I do this summer?
Youth classes and programs available this summer through the John E. Conner Museum and the Center for Continuing Education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville can stop those whines.
At the Conner Museum, the upcoming Discovery Club hands-on learning summer sessions will include origami paper shapes, gardening, bubble making, chemistry, telling time with sundials, pottery making, basket making, fossil bone cleaning, treasure hunt, textures, kites, and story telling about India.
The museum's Discovery Club is open to children five to 12 years of age. Five-to-six-year-old children meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays; children seven to eight years of age meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays; and nine-to-twelve-year-old youths meet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The Discovery Club daily fee is $4 and each session includes a snack break. For more information, phone (512) 593-2810.
At the A&M-Kingsville Center for Continuing Education, the College for Kids 1996 program is offering seven different classes for 3rd-to-9th-grade youngsters. The classes will meet July 8 through 18 and July 22 through August 1.
The summer classes for July 8 through 18 will include conversational Spanish for 6th-to-9th graders, reading-for-fun for 3rd-to-5th-graders; math review for 7th-to-9th graders; and sports for 6th-to-7th graders. The registration deadline is Wednesday, July 3.
The classes for July 22 through August 1 will include exploring algebra for 7th-to-9th graders; exploring computers for sixth-to-ninth graders; and drawing for 5th-to-7th graders. The registration deadline is July 18.
The College for Kids class fee is $45 for each session and enrollment information is available by phoning the A&M-Kingsville Center for Continuing Education at (512) 593-2861.
