Texas A&M-Kingsville schedules summer commencement August 10

Nearly 250 graduates are ready to cross the stage to receive their degrees during the summer commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the Steinke Physical Education Center at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Students receiving their master’s and doctoral degrees will be recognized within their academic colleges.
During the commencement ceremony, Sarah Schwandt, Student Government Association president, will present the Distinguished Student Awards. Seferino “Nino” Mendietta, president of the Javelina Alumni Association, will present a university ring to one deserving graduate.
Alumnus John P. Jackson, CIMA®, CWS®, senior vice president, wealth advisor and senior investment management consultant with The Rockport Group of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Stanton Calvert, vice chancellor emeritus, will bring the welcome from The Texas A&M University System.
About John P. Jackson
Javelina alumnus John P. Jackson earned his bachelor's degree in 1973, graduating summa cum laude, and his M.B.A. in 1975. A Rockport native, Jackson’s first career was with his family’s three-generation seafood business. He began his second career in 1992 with Dean Witter, which later became Morgan Stanley and is today Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
He has earned numerous distinctive titles and designations with the company, including senior vice president, wealth advisor, certified investment management analystSM (CIMA®), portfolio management director and estate planning consultant. He also earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies.
Jackson is active in his community and has served in leadership capacities with the Aransas County ISD Education Foundation, the Margaret Sue Rust Foundation, the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation, Boy Scouts of America Executive Board (South Texas Council), the Odyssey After School Enrichment Program and the First Presbyterian Church of Rockport.
He also has been actively involved with a number of organizations, including the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Texas Maritime Museum, Aransas County Historical Society, the Javelina Alumni Association, The Investment Management Consultants Association and the Association of Professional Investment Consultants.
Jackson’s list of past honors includes Texas Monthly’s 2009 and 2012 FIVE STAR Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager, Eagle Scout, Collegiate Academic All American (football), Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, the Education Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Javelina Alumni Association president and Distinguished Alumnus and the Silver Beaver Award in Scouting. In 2011, Jackson and Sue Hastings wrote his book Taking the Tide: My Family’s Ebb and Flow in Rockport, Texas, which documented the Jackson family’s 125-year, five-generation-rich history in Rockport.-TAMUK-
