23 students vie for 2005 Homecoming King, Queen

KINGSVILLE (October 13, 2005) — Homecoming is an important event in the university experience and this year, 23 students aim to make it even better with a chance to be Homecoming King or Queen 2005.

There are 15 women and 8 men hoping for the crowns that will be presented Saturday, Oct. 22, during the Javelina game against Eastern New Mexico University. The presentation will be held during halftime.

Queen candidates are:

Darla Martinez, a senior early childhood development major from Kingsville sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi;

Dora “Dorie” Lopez, a graduate student in psychology from Odem sponsored by Alpha Phi Sigma;

Veronica Arredondo, a senior political science major from Harlingen sponsored by the Pre-Law Society;

Becky Arevalo, a sophomore fashion and interiors merchandising major from Sugarland sponsored by the Fashion Interiors Merchandising Group;

Amanda Rae Rodriguez, a junior theatre arts education major from Odem sponsored by Footlights;

Ashlie Richardson, a sophomore accounting major from Sinton sponsored by the Campus Activities Board;

Crystal Marie Lopez, a junior pre-pharmacy major from Austin sponsored by the Spanish Club;

Lisa Marie Gonzales, a junior social work major from Harlingen sponsored by the Golden Stars Dance Team;

Iris G. Vasquez, a junior history major from Laredo sponsored by Tau Beta Sigma;

Jocelyn Wilson, a sophomore criminology major from Houston sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes;

Chaysen Cornwell, a sophomore kinesiology major from League City sponsored by Psi Theta Upsilon;

Stephanie N. Garcia, a junior criminology major from Kingsville sponsored by the Criminology Club;

Erika Raza, a junior bilingual education major from Ben Bolt sponsored by the Texas Association of Students in Bilingual Education;

Amanda James, an early childhood education major from Angleton sponsored by Delta Phi Epsilon Chapter Gamma Delta; and

Monica Lerma, a junior marketing major from Carrizo Springs sponsored by Theta Phi Alpha.

King candidates are:

Joe Nathan Jimenez, a sophomore kinesiology major from Bishop sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes;

Ted Briggs, a junior communications major from Victoria sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha;

Craig McNeill, a senior computer information systems and management major from Hebbronville sponsored by Delta Sigma Pi;

Isidro Valdez, a junior business management major and Spanish minor from Del Rio sponsored by La Barraca Tejana Spanish Club;

Patrick Garza, a senior bilingual education major from Kingsville sponsored by Texas Association of Students in Bilingual Education;

Marcos DeLeon, a senior industrial technology major from Corpus Christi sponsored by the Campus Activities Board;

Ryan J. Chapa, a junior criminology major from San Antonio sponsored by the Criminology Club; and

Chris DeLeon, a senior political science major from Corpus Christi sponsored by the ROTC Corps of Cadets.
