Homecoming, Family Weekend offer activities for everyone
KINGSVILLE (October 12, 2005) — It is time to get out the blue and yellow and dust off the old Javelina letter jacket and head to Texas A&M University-Kingsville for Homecoming 2005.
The activities get underway Sunday, Oct. 16, with a flag football tournament on the intramural fields. Teams of students will play against each other beginning at 2:30 p.m.
A Texas Hold ‘Em tournament will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in room 219BC of the Memorial Student Union Building.
Go back to the good old days with a special drive-in movie at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, when the film War of the Worlds is shown in the parking lot of the Nolan Ryan Baseball Field.
It will be all fun and games with food thrown in during the annual Fall Homecoming
Carnival from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19. University Boulevard will be closed and Homecoming revelers can roam the street in search of the perfect meal or the most challenging game.
Keeping the activities going throughout the week will be a talent show beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the ballroom of the Memorial Student Union Building.
Homecoming weekend will start off with a luncheon for members of the Class of 1955 at noon Friday, Oct. 21, in room 219AB of the Memorial Student Union Building.
It will be followed at 1 p.m. by the Javelina Alumni/ROTC Golf tournament at L.E. Ramey Golf Course in Kingsville.
Because Family Weekend will coincide with Homecoming this year, the family movie will be shown at 6 p.m. Friday in room 100 of the Biology Earth Sciences building. This year’s film is Coach Carter.
At 7 p.m. Friday, there will be a football reunion of members of the teams of 1970 and 1975 in McCulley Hall.
The cavalcade to the bonfire will begin at 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot east of Poteet Hall. The cavalcade takes the place of a parade. It will lead to the bonfire site west of Javelina Stadium where activities will start at 8:30 p.m.
Events start early Saturday, Oct. 22, when the Porky’s Pack 5K Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m. on University Boulevard. The John E. Conner Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for any families or guests that would like to visit.
A general meeting of the Javelina Alumni Association will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Mesquite Room of the Memorial Student Union Building. It will be followed by the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon at noon in the ballrooms.
The Javelina Alumni Association fajita cook-off will start at 2:30 p.m. in the tailgate area. Winners will be announced during the Javelina Tailgate Party that begins at 5:30 p.m.
Family Weekend visitors are invited to play bingo from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Turner-Bishop Hall Cafeteria. After bingo, the Family Weekend Tailgate Dinner will be held at Nolan Ryan Field.
The entire week of festivities will culminate with a 7 p.m. kick off as the Javelinas play Eastern New Mexico University in Lone Star Conference play.
