Children, teens, men and women encouraged to tryout Nov. 28-29 for children's play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

KINGSVILLE (November 22, 2005) — The classic Roald Dahl story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been adapted for the stage by Dr. David Deacon, professor of theatre at Texas A&M-Kingsville, and will be the children’s play for the 2005-2006 theatre season. Tryouts for the production are scheduled for Nov. 28-29 from 7-9 p.m. in room 123 of the Drama Arts building.

Reading-age children are to be cast in the roles of Oompa Loompas, with parts available for pre-teens, teens, men and women. The only part not available is that of Willy Wonka, to be played by Barry Berryhill, a theatre arts major from Kingsville.

This audition is open to the public. No prior stage experience is necessary.

Rehearsals for the play will begin in January during the late afternoon/early evening hours. The play will be performed Sunday, Feb. 12, through Friday, February 17.

School age children will need to get permission to miss class for the weekday performances happening Feb. 13-17.
