Communication Sciences and Disorders
graduate program receives re-accreditation through April 2013

KINGSVILLE (August 18, 2005) — The graduate program in communication sciences and disorders at Texas A&M University-Kingsville was awarded re-accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language-Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

The re-accreditation period lasts eight years, through April 30, 2013.

“We are excited and thrilled that our hard work has been recognized, and that we can continue offering a quality program here at Texas A&M-Kingsville,” said Shari Schlehuser Beams, associate professor and director of the program.

The two year graduate degree program, part of the department of communications and theatre arts, is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to acquire analytical, research, and clinical management skills related to disorders of human communication.

It enrolled its first students in fall 1996 and graduated its first students with Master of Science degrees in May 1998. The program was awarded candidacy status by ASHA in May 1997 and received its initial accreditation in 2000.

“The program serves a great need in our area, providing quality academic and clinical training for individuals interested in pursuing a career in speech-language pathology,” said Beams. “We are all proud to be a part of something so valuable.”
