KINGSVILLE (May 4, 1999) -- For the third straight year, Texas A&M University-Kingsville's College of Engineering won highest advertising honors for its Christmas card, prepared with O'Brien Advertising/Communications in Corpus Christi.
For the 1998 Christmas card, the College of Engineering won a Citation of Excellence for Special Event Material, the second highest award; and The Addy Award for Best Use of Humor, the highest award, both from the American Advertising Awards hosted by the Corpus Christi Advertising Federation.
In addition, the Christmas card was given a Judges' Special Award for the second year in a row. This is an exceptional award given at the discretion of the judges. The award is given a name when it is awarded. The award for the College of Engineering was named "Wish We Had Done That" Award.
The 1998 version of the College of Engineering Christmas card was "An Engineer's Guide to Wrapping Christmas Gifts." It gives the prospective wrapper a list of materials required and technical advice for the wrapping process from an engineer's point of view.
It follows a theme started with the 1996 card that depicted the proper assembly of a Christmas tree and the 1997 card that showed how to put together a bicycle.Maureen O'Brien, owner of O'Brien Advertising/Communications, is an alumnus of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M-Kingsville), receiving a bachelor of arts degree with honors.
