Study Abroad Procedures

Procedures for Faculty: Faculty-Led Programs

1. Inform and advise the Chair of your department regarding your plans in teaching abroad.  Discuss with Chair and ultimately, the Dean on how the salary will be paid for teaching a course or courses abroad.  

2. Apply for passport, please visit http://travel.state.gov/passport/ for passport service.

Timeline: 8-10 months prior to departure

3. Identify country of interest

4. Prepare budget with the Director for International Studies & Programs

Timeline: 6-8 months prior to departure

5.Provide course approval form along with syllabus to the Office of International Studies & Programs.

Timeline: 6-8 months prior to departure

6. Discuss program budget and finalize program cost with the Office of International Studies & Programs Director

Timeline: 6-8 months prior to departure

7. Collaborate closely with the Office of International Studies & Programs in the creation of promotional flier.

Timeline: 6-8 months prior to departure

8. Announce program to students in his/her classroom

9. Provide the Office of International Studies & Programs a list of student participants.

Timeline: on-going

10. The number of registered students in a course will be determined by the Chair of the Academic Department and communicate the information to the Office of International Studies and Programs. 

11. Collaborate with Office of International Studies to establish payment deadlines

Timeline: 6-8 months prior to departure

12. Submit Leave Travel request forms to the appropriate departments for approval and provide the Office of International Studies & Programs a copy.

Timeline: 3-5 months prior to departure

13. Participate and present during the three (3) required orientations before departure

14. Communicate with the Office of International Studies & Programs while teaching abroad

15. While abroad, teach and coordinate program-related activities.

16. Meet with the Office of International Studies & Programs to do program evaluation and assessment at least a week after return from travel.

17. Conduct presentation of Study Abroad Program to Faculty, Staff, students and Community.
