Texas A&M-Kingsville to host Earth Sciences Week events

             KINGSVILLE (October 9, 2018) — The geosciences program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will host activities for National Earth Sciences Week, Sunday, Oct. 14, through Saturday, Oct. 20. This is the sixth year the geosciences program has held activities for the campus and the community.


            The first event open to the public is a Departmental Open House that will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. Open house will be held throughout Hill Hall and in rooms 126, 127, 129 and 140 in Manning Hall.


            There will be GIS, paleontology, mineralogy and petrology, field geography and geophysics demonstrations. Personal collections of the faculty, including meteorites, minerals and fossils will be on display.


            The second event will be a public lecture by Dr. Mark Ford, assistant professor of geology at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in room 119 of Hill Hall.


            Ford will give An Update and Review of the Exciting 2018 Hawaiian Volcanic Eruptions.
