Art work by local middle school students who participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest will be on display at the John E. Conner Museum, located on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville beginning Wednesday, March 13 through Friday, March 22. Students from Riviera Independent School District and Santa Gertrudis School competed against some 350,000 artists worldwide.

A reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 18 to honor the student artists.

Lions Club International is the world’s largest international service organization. It annually sponsors the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. This year’s theme was Children Know Peace. Contest entrants were asked to illustrate what peace means to them using any variety of two-dimensional art media, including charcoal, crayon, pencil or paint. Because it is an international contest, no wording was allowed on the front of the poster.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the museum and the exhibit is free, however, donations are welcome. For more information, call 361-593-2810.
