Almost, Maine brings a look at winter holiday to South Texas theatre

The Alpha Psi Omega honorary theatre fraternity at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will host a winter show featuring the play Almost, Maine, a romantic comedy about the imaginary small town of Almost, Maine. The play is a series of different vignettes revolving around the townspeople and their love lives.

Almost, Maine will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, December 3-5, in The Little Theatre. The $5 admission will go to Alpha Psi Omega. The play is rated PG.

Lino Placencio, a junior theatre arts and business major from Alice, is the director of Almost, Maine.  He has appeared in Boxcar, Eight Reindeer Monologues and Boys Next Door. He also is vice president of Alpha Psi Omega.

Because the play is a series of vignettes, many of the cast members play several different characters.

Playing the parts of Gayle, Ginette and Villian is Vanessa Valdez, a junior communication sciences and disorders major and a psychology and theatre arts minor. She is from Coppell. Valdez has previously been in Once upon a Mattress, Blood Wedding and Eight Reindeer Monologues. She is president of Alpha Psi Omega.

Fernando Mercado, a sophomore theatre arts major from Mission, plays the parts of Pete and Chad. He has previously appeared in Blood Wedding, Snow White and Sins of Sor Juana, and was part of the crew for Same as Sarah.

The parts of Suzette and Rhonda will be played by Katelyn Forst, a sophomore fashion and interiors merchandising major from Chicago. She was part of the technical crew of Snow White.

Justin Avalos, a sophomore psychology major from Corpus Christi, plays the part of Dave. He was on the lighting crew for Blood Wedding and performed in Snow White and Same as Sarah.

The parts of Hope and Marvalyn are played by Amelia Yvette Saenz, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Rio Grande City. She has previously been in Blood Wedding, Boys Next Door and Same as Sarah.

Benito Latigo Jr., a senior communication and theatre arts major from Progreso, will play the parts of Phil and Steve. He has previously appeared in Tommy, Blood Wedding, Sins of Sor Juana and Snow White.

The parts of Randy and Jimmy will be played by Michael Mendez, a senior communications major from Corpus Christi. He has appeared in Little Shop of Horrors, Once upon a Mattress, Bethlehem, Tommy and Godspell.

Azhalia Ramirez, a senior political science major from San Antonio, plays the parts of Sandrine and Marci. She has appeared in Blood Wedding, I Hate Hamlet, Wizard of Oz and Tommy, and was part of the costume crew for Same as Sarah.

The parts of Lendall and Danny are played by Mario Orlando Flores, a junior theatre and communications major from Odem. He has previously been in Las Cartas, Eight Reindeer Monologues and Tommy.

Myles Martinez, a senior theatre arts major from San Antonio, will play the part of East. He has previously been seen in The Great Cross Country Race, Boxcar, I Hate Hamlet, Blood Wedding, Same as Sarah, Pillow Talk and The Boys Next Door.

Alex Barona, a senior theatre major from Katy, will be the sound manager. He has previously worked in Snow White, Same as Sarah, Sins of Sor Juana and The Boys Next Door.

Light design will be done by Stacy Saenz, a theatre and communications major from Realitos. She has worked behind the scenes in a number of productions, including Once upon a Mattress, Snow White, Sins of Sor Juana, A Tempest and Same as Sarah.

Katie Desiderio, a senior theatre major from Kingsville, also is part of the crew. She has been in numerous productions, including Dead Man’s Cellphone, Boys Next Door, Mama Drama, Tommy, Reindeer Monologues, Daughters, A Tempest and Once upon a Mattress.
