Innovators and future entrepreneurs are invited to the 2013 Coastal Bend Business Plan Competition  Kingsville Kickoff at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 3 in room 109 of the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering Complex on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Now in its third year, the Coastal Bend Business Plan Competition (CBBPC) provides individuals or multi-person teams the opportunity to develop an original, viable business plan for the creation of a new business driven by an innovation and new technology or for an existing business to launch an innovative technological improvement to an existing product or service.

According to the CBBPC guidelines, contestants’ plans must be committed to economic development and job creation in the Coastal Bend. The business plan must provide evidence that the proposed venture will produce a positive, long-term economic impact in the Coastal Bend.

The free kick-off event will include presentations from the CBBPC chair about the competition and from past competition winners.

Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering dean Dr. Stephan Nix serves as a member of the CBBPC Planning Committee. Nix said the ample intellectual capital associated with the university means that the environment is ripe for entrepreneurship.

“We have a community here that is capable of coming up with new ideas that can be marketed for economic investment in Kingsville and the Coastal Bend, in general,” Nix said.

Business Plan Overviews must be submitted by November 30, 2012. Competition finalists will be notified in May 2013.

Kick-off attendees should RSVP by October 1 by emailing joanne.denkeler@tamuk.edu.
