Events celebrating students, alumni range from Fall Carnival to Jav-a-Pachanga

KINGSVILLE (October 12, 2012) – As the oldest university in South Texas, Texas A&M University-Kingsville has rich traditions, with many revolving around Homecoming. The special week-long celebration is the perfect time for the Javelina community to Feel the Pride—the theme of the 2012 Javelina Homecoming. The week of special events begins Monday, Oct. 22, and concludes Saturday, Oct. 27, with the annual homecoming football game at Javelina Stadium.

This year the Office of Student Activities and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs have planned a full week of activities for students, alumni and the entire Javelina community.   

Admission is free and open to the public to the following events.

Monday, October 22

  • 7 p.m.:  The Comedy Group: Mission Improvable will bring unscripted laughs to Jones Auditorium.  

Tuesday, October 23

  • 7 p.m.:  The Javelina Talent Show will be held in Jones Auditorium. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three student winners.  

Wednesday, October 24

  • 5 p.m.: The Fall Carnival will be held on University Boulevard with food and game booths sponsored by various university student organizations.
  • 8 p.m Top Homecoming King & Queen Nominees will be announced during the Fall Carnival.

Thursday, October 25

  • 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: The Javelina Alumni Association will host a Parade Mixer at Salon-de-Lis’ Spa & Boutique at 506 E. Kleberg Ave. in Downtown Kingsville. The location sits at the heart of the parades route. The community is invited join the official viewing station. Food, refreshments and wine tasting will be provided.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Feel the Pride Homecoming Parade will be held in Downtown Kingsville. Javelina supporters are encouraged to enter their floats in the parade. To enter a float in this year’s festivities please visit www.tamuk.edu/homecoming.
  • 8 p.m.: Magician Derek Hughes will perform at Jones Auditorium.

Friday, October 26

  • 2 p.m.: University tours will begin at the pavilion adjacent to the Memorial Student Union Building. This is the community’s opportunity to view new construction on the university’s campus. The tour will end at the Memorial Student Building Courtyard for the Path of Success brick reception immediately following.
  • 6:30 p.m. The Hog Call and bonfire will be held north of Mesquite Village West, the newest university residence hall, near Corral Avenue.
  • 7:30 p.m.: Jav-A-Pachanga will be held at Mesquite Grove and will feature musical guest David Grace. Grace has appeared on NBC’s The Voice and performed across the nation. This is a community-wide celebration in which student organizations and local businesses are invited to participate as vendors. Saturday, October 27

    • 8:15 a.m. Check-in begins in the Memorial Student Union Building courtyard for the 11th Annual Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run. Event begins at 9 a.m.
      • 11:30 a.m. Distinguished Alumni and one Rising Star honoree will be recognized at the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon in the Memorial Student Union Building Ballrooms. The luncheon is presented by IBC Bank.
      • 2:30 p.m. The Alumni Fajita Cook-off will begin at the tailgate area of Javelina Stadium with announcement of winners at 6 p.m.
      • 4 p.m. The Homecoming Tailgate will be held in the tailgate area of Javelina Stadium.
      • 7 p.m. Kick-off of the Kleberg Bank Homecoming Football Game, pitting the Javelinas against Angelo State University. Tickets are $10 for sections A and F, $12 for sections B and E, $15 for sections C and D and $20 for box seats in sections C and D. General admission tickets are $8 if purchased online at www.javelinatickets.com or at the ticket office during the week and $10 on game day. Student admission is free with a valid student identification card.
