Broadway in the Brush features area singers, musicians performing hits

Everyone has their favorite Broadway musicals. Now Broadway in the Brush will feature a night of songs from those musicals beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17-18, at Jones Auditorium at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. 

The event will support the theatre program within the Department of Art, Communications and Theatre at A&M-Kingsville. 

Broadway in the Brush will features 17 performers from around South Texas, covering 26 Broadway hits from 1927 to 2011.

In addition to the music, there will be a silent auction and refreshments provided by Alpha Psi Omega, the honorary theatre fraternity.

In the Broadway tradition, those attending are encouraged to dress in evening wear.

The doors will open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 361-593-3401.

Many of the performers are current Texas A&M-Kingsville students, including Deborah Gerd, Michelle Flores, Vanessa Valdez, Megan Saenz, Peter Lopez, Cory Scarborough, Debra Miget, Jordan Brewster and Michael Mendez. Other performers include Michelle Barnett, William Martwick, Leah Luna, MaryLou Ranson, Ava Parza, Buddy Trevino, Cassie Clarke, Jonathan Morales and Corey Ranson.

The band will be led by Allison Ulmer, A&M-Kingsville pianist, with former student Chris Arellano on guitar, and current students Mark Benavides on bass guitar and Stephen Castle on drums.
