A&M-Kingsville theatre presents Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The art, communications and theatre department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will present an age-old classic for this year’s children show, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  

The play will have one public performance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, in Jones Auditorium. Admission is $1.  

It will then be performed for various Coastal Bend schools the week of Feb. 6.

Adapted from the Grimm Brothers fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been told many times. The Wicked Queen is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and sends huntsmen to find her. Snow White hides herself in the home of seven dwarfs. However, the queen tracks her down, disguises herself and tempts her with a poisoned apple. Prince Charming has fallen in love with Snow White and can awaken her from the apple’s spell with love’s first kiss.

Leah Lizzett Luna, a senior theatre arts major from Del Rio, is the student director of the play. She has appeared in Tommy, Las Cartas, Sylvia and Little Shop of Horrors. Lino Placencio, a sophomore theatre arts major from Kingsville, is the stage manager. He has appeared in Tommy, Boxcar and Wizard of Oz. Ava Lauren Garza, of Kingsville, is assistant manager. She is a sixth grader at Bishop Elementary School.

The title role of Snow White will be played by Krystin Torres, a junior biology major from Kingsville.  She was in Tommy and Once Upon a Mattress.  Prince Charming will be recreated by Michael Simpson, a freshman theatre arts major from Houston. Megan Saenz plays the Wicked Queen. She is a junior theatre arts major from Alice. She has previously appeared in Baby with the Bathwater and Tartuffe. The part of Goulash is played by Jalen Roy Gonzales, a freshman theatre arts major from Woodsboro. He was in Blood Wedding and was assistant prop master for Bethlehem.

The Huntsmen are played by Fernando Mercado, Justin Avalos and Alex Barona. Mercado is a freshman theatre arts major from Mission who has appeared in Blood Wedding and Barona is a junior music education major from Katy. The Narrator is played by Benito Latigo Jr. and Aaron Adame. Latigo is a junior communication/theatre arts major from Progreso who has appeared in The Wizard of Oz, Tommy and Blood Wedding. Adame is a junior theatre arts major from Corpus Christi who has appeared in Tommy, Blood Wedding and Godspell. The Mirror on the Wall is played by Deborah Gerd.

The Seven Dwarfs are:

MD—played by Kayla Leal, a senior kinesiology major from Elsa who has been in The Great Amazing Race and Little Shop of Horrors.

Sniffly—played by Sara Rose Vera, a freshman communication major from Corpus Christi who has been in Blood Wedding

Lazy—played Madelyn Rendon, from Kingsville who is a second grader at Bishop Primary School;

Cheery—played by Nicole Villarreal, a junior communications major from Harlingen;

Grouchy—played by Gabriella Garcia;

Shy—played by David Langschied, from Kingsville, who is a seventh grader at Santa Gertrudis School; and 

Loopy—played by Isabella Rodriguez, from Kingsville, who is a second grader at St. Gertrude’s School.
