Tier 1 notification
Colleges and universities across the country have turned their attentions to campus safety and security in the wake of incidents like the shootings at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University as well as in response to natural emergencies such as hurricanes and tornadoes.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville is dedicated to providing a safe environment in which students can learn and faculty members can work. The Emergency Management Team at A&M-Kingsville has researched and obtained funding to purchase a Tier 1 Emergency Notification System which will provide directions to the campus community in the event of a crisis. The notification system is utilized to provide direct commands and sounds that alert the campus to the danger and ways to take necessary precautions. The system is accompanied by interior signs that provide both written and verbal commands--in English and Spanish--to direct individuals to safe locations in order to avoid danger.
During
2009, the outdoor communication system and the interior signs will be
constructed and tested frequently. The Tier 1 Notification System will
be further supported by the Tier 2 System already in place which
provides text messages, emails, and voicemail alerts in the event of
emergencies.
