Candlelight
Vigil for Virginia Tech Students
During the aftermath of the recent school shootings on the Virginia Tech
University campus, Texas A&M University- Kingsville (TAMUK) students
and staff have their minds racing with thoughts of anger, confusion, concern
or desolation.
In order to commemorate those 32 students who died as well as the families,
the Student Government Association (SGA) with the support of TAMUK President
Rumaldo Juarez, Student Activities spearheaded a candlelight vigil at
the ‘Call of the Wild’ javelina statue Tuesday evening, April
17, one day after the Virginia Tech tragedy.
“We must honor those who lost their lives so tragically, remember
those who still continue to suffer and reach out to those with our prayers
and support,” SGA President and senior history and biology major
Thomas Bingham said during a brief statement at the vigil.
According to Bingham, the vigil was a chance for the TAMUK community to
reflect on the many blessings of friends and family.
