TAMUK Herbarium
The Biology Department is home to the TAMUK Herbarium. This collection of vascular plants was established in 1925 and contains about 7,000 preserved specimens of vascular plants from the surrounding area and a large collection of non-vascular mosses and lichen. The mission of the TAMUK Herbarium is to collect, identify, preserve, and study the rich diversity of plants located in South Texas and related ecosystems. The current director of the Herbarium is Dr. Alice Hempel. The Herbarium homepage is a rich source of information with many links to reference materials for South Texas plants and animals.
