Research and Teaching Interests:

Aging and health (social support, intergenerational relations, living arrangements, stratification of health, racial and ethnic differences in health); Family sociology (social change and the family, comparative family systems); Social science research methodology (research design, survey research, quantitative methods, linear statistical models); Social organization (group and organizations, bureaucracy, market and hierarchy); Contemporary Chinese society (people and institutions in contemporary China, reform and change in social structure); Social stratification (perception of distributive justice, social inequalities in state socialist societies); General sociology (introduction to sociology, classical sociological theory, contemporary sociological theory).
