The student-run Javelina Broadcast Network (JBN) is the video and audio production arm of the university’s journalism and digital media programs. It combines traditional media training with real-world experience necessary for students who wish to pursue careers in television production and broadcast journalism.

Various courses in journalism, radio-television and digital media prepare students to volunteer and work within the Javelina Broadcast Network. These students are charged with reporting and documenting campus and community events, including producing and broadcasting live events through the student newspaper’s website, for the university’s television station or for area television stations.

The majority of the programming centers around the university’s athletics program, but JBN also reports and livestreams a variety of campus events, including fall and spring festivals, the Miss TAMUK pageant, presentations by celebrity visitors, addresses by university administrators and faculty, music concerts, theatre productions and graduation ceremonies. The JBN crew is also responsible for operating the scoreboard at Javelina Stadium for all football games, including high school regular season and playoff games as well as all Javelina home games.

A highlight of JBN programming is the production of a live tailgate show prior to every Javelina home football game. The 1 ½-hour show allows students opportunities to hone their reporting skills and develop packages for production. The tailgate show is livestreamed on www.TAMUK.tv, the student newspaper’s broadcast portal.
