Richard Miller named President-elect of Society for Teaching of Psychology

Dr. Richard L. Miller, Chair of the Department of Psychology and Sociology at Texas A&M University- Kingsville has been appointed President-elect of The Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP). STP is a division of the American Psychological Association.

“The Society for the Teaching of Psychology advances understanding of the discipline by promoting excellence in the teaching and learning of psychology. The Society provides resources and services, access to a collaborative community, and opportunities for professional development. The Society also strives to advance the scholarship of teaching and learning, advocate for the needs of teachers of psychology, foster partnerships across academic settings, and increase recognition of the value of the teaching profession,” Miller said.

Miller will officially become President-elect in January 2018. He will assume the role of President in January 2019.

“My role will be to oversee the various programs offered by STP and to engage in certain initiatives that I decide upon, which will include building stronger ties between high school teachers of psychology and university faculty, and promoting undergraduate student research as a means of teaching psychological science,” he said.

“I am humbled and excited about this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and teachers of psychology,” he said.
